Crowther Hall
Get away from it all and experience our traditional 19th century self-catering lockkeepers cottage on the isolated Welsh section of the tranquil Montgomery Canal in mid-Wales. It has 3 bedrooms (one double) and sleeps 4-6.
We have recently restored it sympathetically to keep its original Victorian character, with quarry-tiled floors and exposed beams. Simple modern comforts include a wood burning stove, bathroom and small kitchen - but no telephone, television, central heating or double glazing - to give you a taste of how life used to be!
Approached on foot over a traditional humpback canal bridge, the cottage is Grade II listed and has a quiet lockside garden and paddock. It has glorious views over the Breidden Hills, Long Mountain, pastureland and the unspoilt rural canal, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and lies on the Offa's Dyke Walk.
Ideal as a base for walking, birdwatching, canoeing, fishing, visiting the local historic castles and gardens - or just relaxing - the cottage is 4 miles from Welshpool, a market town in farming country and ½ mile from the village pub.
It is open from April 2006 but, because of its structure and location, is not suitable for the less agile and children must always be supervised. Sorry, no animals or smoking.
